May 7, 2002
NESS ZIONA, Israel,

Proneuron Biotechnologies, Inc. announced today that its scientific founder, Prof. Michal Schwartz, of the Neuroimmunology department at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel, has been granted the Friedenwald Award by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), "for pioneering work in the area of optic nerve recovery after injury". Prof. Schwartz's studies on the neurodegenerative and neuroprotective aspects of glaucoma have demonstrated that progression of glaucoma and various other neurodegenerative disorders can be attenuated via therapeutic vaccination. Proneuron Biotechnologies supports Prof. Schwartz's research and holds rights to technology derived from it. The development of a proprietary therapeutic vaccine for acute and chronic neurodegenerative disorders is currently in advanced preclinical development for several indications.
